Wolf (Diorama)

 Organization

Historical Note

The Wolf diorama is located on the first floor in the Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals. The diorama was completed in 1948 and restored during the Hall’s renovation project in 2011-2012. The scene depicts two wolves at midnight in December running over frozen Gunflint Lake, Superior National Forest, Minnesota in pursuit of their prey. James Perry Wilson painted the background scene which features the northern lights or aurora borealis. The foreground artist, Raymond DeLucia, completed the illusion of a cold crisp night by creating an artificial snowscape. The taxidermist was George Adams. (Windows on Nature, 2006)
