Historical Note

The Striped Skunk diorama is located on the first floor in the Hall of Small Mammals, part of the Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals. The diorama was created in 1947 and was restored during the Hall’s renovation project in 2011-2012. The scene depicts a mother skunk and her five kits on a hunting sortie at dusk at the Delaware Water Gap, New Jersey. The background was painted by James Perry Wilson. The foreground artist was Raymond DeLucia. The original taxidermist was George Adams, replaced by David B. Schwendeman (1986). (Windows on Nature, 2006)
