Description
"Planet Peru" was an exhibition of fifty-four black-and-white prints revealed the beauty of Peru through aerial landscape photography. Divided into three sections, Highlands, South Coast, and North Coast, the exhibition traced the history of Peru through the remains of pre-Columbian architecture and engineering. For this ten-year project, photographer Marilyn Bridges flew through the Andes, over Machu Pichu and Colca Canyon and past the Andagua Valley to capture Peru's landscape on film. Highlights of the exhibition included photographs of the Nazca lines, enormous designs carved into the landscape; the Moche Pyramids of the Sun and Moon; the tombs of Sipan; Tiwanaku, the world highest ancient urban center, and the Inka sanctuary on the Island of the Sun along Lake Titicaca. The exhibit was made possible by the Professional Imaging Division of the Eastman Kodak Company and was on view in the Akeley Gallery of the American Museum of Natural History from December 1, 1995 through February 1, 1996.
