Description

"Spiders!" was an exhibition examining the life of spiders, demonstrating how they travel, hunt and reproduce. Through the use of games, videos, photographs, specimens and interactive components, visitors discovered the ways in which a spider uses its senses to perceive the natural world. The centerpiece of the exhibition was a display of approximately twelve live tarantulas from North and South America and Africa. The exhibit also examined the impact of spiders on popular culture, illustrating their place in literature and art. The exhibit was supported by Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. and the Smithsonian's Special Exhibition Fund, and was on view in Gallery 3 of the American Museum of Natural History from March 17 through June 14, 1995. Organized by the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, the exhibit then traveled to other cities under the auspices of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.

Individuals and institutions involved in the creation of the exhibition: National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution.
