James C. Tyler was an icthyologist-diver. He worked with the American Museum of Natural History as a Research Associate in the Department of Herpetology and Ichthyology (from 1977) and Assistant Resident Director and Director of the museum's Lerner Marine Laboratory from 1973-1975. Tyler also worked at the National Museum of Natural History as an acting director
