Biographical or Historical Note

Frank Wilbert Stokes was an artist and explorer. He was best known for the scenes he painted of the Arctic and Antarctic while on polar expeditions wit Admiral Robert E. Peary and other explorers. In 1909 he completed a series of murals on the Arctic night and day and on aspects of the life of the Smith Sound Eskimo for the American Museum of Natural History
