Biographical or Historical Note

Robert D. Sterling was a real estate operator and a financier. Sterling was an honorary trustee of the American Museum of Natural History. He and his wife, Ruth Hoe Sterling joined the Board of Trustees in April 1953, and Robert became honorary trustee in October that year. The Bald Eagle Group in the Hall of North American Birds at the museum was donated by the Sterlings. They also donated funds for habitat groups in the Hall of North American Forests, the Hall of Small North American Mammals, North American Birds and the Hall of Ocean Life
