Dwight Franklin worked at the American Museum of Natural History as a modeler of fishes. In 1910 he was a member of the Mississippi Expedition with the museum's Department of Ichthyology and Herpetology. The AMNH Library has his diary from the expedition as well as original watercolors of angerfishes Franklin created. The museum commissioned Franklin's work for the Deep Sea Group for the Hall of Fishes in 1926
