Summary

"Exceptional Gems" featured a Mogul emerald, an emerald crystal, and a Burma ruby. The emerald known as "The Mogul" was remarkable for its carving of a prayer on one side and a floral design on the other. Also on view was the almost flawless deep green emerald crystal discovered at a mine in Muzo, Columbia as well as the "cushion cut" Burma ruby, also free of flaws. The three gems were on loan from Allan Caplan, a New York gem dealer and collector of fine gems and minerals. The exhibition, curated by George E. Harlow, Associate Curator in the Mineral Sciences Department, was on view in the Morgan Hall of Gems from October 14, 1983 through January 13, 1984.

Individuals and institutions involved in the creation of the exhibition: George Harlow; AMNH Department of Mineral Sciences.
