Summary
"Fishes of Mauritius" featured pages from the illustrated manuscript, Fishes of Mauritius. Nicholas Pike, U.S. counsul to Mauritius from 1867-74, collected, sketched and described the fishes of the then British Colony. The eight illustrated volumes were given to the Museum in 1905 by J. Pierpont Morgan. Some the scientifically important illustrations, together with Pikes notes, were on view in the Rare Book Room (3rd floor) of the American Museum of Natural History starting in February, 1976.
