Located in the Grand Gallery at the American Museum of Natural History."Rare Letter and Portrait of Baron Alexander von Humboldt", an Exhibit of the Month, featured a rare letter written in Spanish by German scientist and explorer Baron Alexander von Humboldt as well as a portrait of von Humboldt in his later years.

"Rare Letter and Portrait of Baron Alexander von Humboldt", an Exhibit of the Month, featured a rare letter written in Spanish by German scientist and explorer Baron Alexander von Humboldt as well as a portrait of von Humboldt in his later years. The letter written on January 18, 1803, was addressed to Ignacio Checa, Spanish Governor of Jaen in Peru. The letter and portrait, both part of the Museum's collection, were on view in the 77th Street Foyer of the American Museum of Natural History during the month of September 1969 as the Exhibit of the Month.
