Summary
"Ipiutak Death Mask" featured a death mask from Ipiutak, a nearly 2000-year-old village located on Point Hope, Alaska. The mask, carved from ivory, was found by archaeologists supported by the Museum and the Danish Rasek-Orsted Foundation along with some 10,000 artifacts at the site. This Exhibit of the Month was on view in the 77th St. Foyer of the American Museum of Natural History from August 1 through August 31, 1968. On September 1, it was returned to its permanent location in the Museum's Eskimo Hall.
