Exhibition. Opened September 13, 1955 and closed October 30, 1955. Located in the Corner Gallery at the American Museum of Natural History. "Art of the Cyrene Mission" featured watercolors and woodcuts created by African artists at an African mission school.

Summary

"Art of the Cyrene Mission" featured watercolors and woodcuts created by African artists at an African mission school. Founded by Canon Edward Patterson, an Anglican priest-artist, The Cyrene Mission in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia pioneered the development of native artistic talents. The works were very colorful with blues and greens predominating, and the subject matter depicted both Biblical and African stories. The exhibition was on view in the Corner Gallery of the American Museum of Natural History from September 13 through October 30, 1955.
