Summary
"Faces of India" was an exhibition of photographs by Willem Holst contrasting difficultires of contemporary Indian village life with India cultural roots and beauty. During his trip to India, Holst photographed poverty and squalor in the shadow of ancient oriental elegance. The exhibition included photographs of the Taj Mahal as well as squatters' huts, the faces of hungry children along with those of holy men, and young girls in saris contrasted with children dressed in rags. The exhibition was on view in the Corner Gallery of the American Museum of Natural History from April 30 through Sunday May 31, 1953.
