"Kings, Chiefs, and Women of Power: Images from Nigeria" was an exhibition displaying a series of thirty large-format Cibachrome prints by photographer Phyllis Galembo featuring portraits of some of Nigeria's traditional leaders - kings, chiefs, and okao (women of power) - and images of their traditional clothing. The exhibition provided a sense of the historical role played by the leaders in Nigeria. Many of the individuals photographed were from Benin City. The exhibition was organized by Enid Schildkrout, chair and curator, Department of Anthropology, American Museum of Natural History and was on view in the Akeley Gallery on the second floor of the American Museum of Natural History from April 18 through June 28, 1998.
