Summary
"Shakespeare: the Globe and the World" was a traveling exhibition from the Folger Library. Margaret M. Welch was the project administrator at the time for the Folger exhibition. The Folger holds the world's greatest collection of Shakespearean and other literary works of the Elizabethan era. They were presented in a multi-media setting that included film and video clips from six of Shakespeare's plays. According to Dr. Thomas D. Nicholson, the director of the Museum at the time, the exhibition presented the humanist world view that shaped Shakespeare's era. The exhibit was held in conjunction with a city-wide "Shakespeare Summerfest" which featured lectures, films, plays and other presentations at participating institutions. It was made possible by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Exxon Corporation, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The exhibit began it's cross country tour of seven cities in October, 1979 making its final stop at the American Museum of Natural History and on view in Gallery 3 from June 18 through September 20 1981,
