Summary
"Pattern for Survival--The Seventeen-Year Cicada" was a multi-screen presentation illustrating the birth-death pattern on an insect that exists some 880 weeks underground and a few weeks above ground. Narrated by Edwin Newman, the color slide show provided a close-up of the biological drama that unfolds behind the phenomenon. The slide show also featured the pro-recorded singing of three different species of cicadas which was presented in conjunction with visual depictions of the mating and egg-laying. The exhibit, a travelling exhibit created by Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History, was on view in the Corner Gallery of the American Museum of Natural History starting on July 18, 1974.
